What to Do with Leftover Seafood Boil: Easy Meal Ideas
A good seafood boil can leave you with a little bit of everything: shrimp, crab, sausage, corn, potatoes, and seasoned butter. Instead of serving the exact same plate again, turn those leftovers into a completely different meal.
First, make sure the leftovers were refrigerated safely. USDA guidance recommends refrigerating perishable leftovers within 2 hours and using refrigerated leftovers within 3 to 4 days.
1. Garlic Butter Seafood Pasta
Remove seafood from shells, warm it gently in seasoned butter, and toss with pasta. Add a splash of pasta water to loosen the sauce.
2. Seafood Fried Rice
Chop leftover shrimp, sausage, corn, and vegetables into bite-size pieces. Add them to cooked rice near the end so the already-cooked seafood only needs to heat through.
3. Loaded Seafood Potatoes
Split a baked potato and top it with chopped shrimp or crab, corn, seasoned butter, and a little cheese if you like.
4. Seafood Omelet
A small amount of leftover shrimp or crab can turn breakfast into something special. Warm the seafood briefly before folding it into eggs.
5. Seafood Quesadillas
Chop the seafood and sausage finely, add cheese, and cook between tortillas until hot and crisp.
6. Creamy Seafood Soup
Use leftover corn, potatoes, seafood, and sausage as the base for a quick creamy soup. Add the seafood near the end so it does not overcook.
7. Seafood Salad
Cold cooked shrimp can be chopped and mixed into a simple seafood salad for sandwiches or crackers, provided it has been stored safely.
Reheat Safely
FoodSafety.gov recommends reheating leftovers to 165°F. Because seafood can dry out, use gentle heat and avoid repeatedly reheating the entire batch.
