Can You Use Seafood Boil Seasoning on Steak?
Seafood boil seasoning can be used on more than shrimp, crab, and lobster. The savory spices that work with seafood can also add bold flavor to steak, especially when paired with butter.
Use It as a Steak Seasoning
Pat the steak dry, then apply a light, even layer of seasoning before cooking. Start conservatively, especially if the blend contains salt. You can always add more flavor after the steak is cooked, but you cannot remove excess seasoning once it is on the meat.
This approach works with ribeye, strip steak, sirloin, flank steak, and other cuts. Let the steak sit briefly after seasoning, then grill or sear it using your preferred method.
Make a Seasoned Butter for Steak
Another easy option is to keep the steak seasoning simple and finish it with butter mixed with Chef Bae® Seafood Boil Seasoning. Melt the butter gently, stir in the seasoning, and spoon a small amount over the steak just before serving.
You can also add fresh garlic, parsley, or a squeeze of lemon if you want a brighter finish.
Grilled Steak
For grilled steak, season the meat before it goes on the grill and reserve some seasoned butter for the end. The smoky flavor from the grill pairs well with a buttery, savory finish.
Skillet Steak
For a skillet method, sear the steak first. During the final part of cooking, lower the heat and add butter. Once the butter melts, add a small amount of seasoning and spoon the butter over the steak.
What Sides Work with It?
Serve seasoned steak with roasted potatoes, corn, green beans, broccoli, asparagus, rice, mac and cheese, or a baked potato. Many of the same vegetables that work in a seafood boil also pair well with steak.
One Seasoning, More Than One Kind of Dinner
Using seafood boil seasoning on steak is an easy way to get more use out of a seasoning blend you already enjoy. The key is to season gradually and let the butter carry the flavor instead of overwhelming the meat.
